Algebris Policy & Research Forum supporting Local Opportunities Lab for a data and research hub

The Algebris Policy & Research Forum proudly supports the Local Opportunities Lab (Lab), an Italian research hub that collects data and brings together researchers and projects on local economies, in collaboration with Tortuga Econ, a non-profit association and think-tank of students, researchers and young professionals working in the economics and social sciences fields.

The Lab aims to promote scientific research by offering independent analysis based on granular data and is now live online with a brand new website. A key element on the website is the Atlas, an interactive map of Italy showing the geographical distribution of demographic and economic indicators (e.g. migration rate, fertility rate and employment rate among others) and how this has changed over time.

The objective of the Lab is to promote efficiency and equity of policies and projects with a micro-economic impact. Considering the importance that these issues will have for Italy, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Algebris thinks the Lab can become a reference point in the construction and implementation of local policies, by public and private decision makers.

The Lab consists of a group of associated researchers and research collaborators, and a Scientific Committee including Silvia Merler (Algebris Policy & Research Forum), Giuseppe Berta (Bocconi University), Giovanni Mastrobuoni (University of Turin), and Enrico Moretti (University of Berkley).
